Introduction

Science advances the society, and numerous government and business leaders around the world are articulating the importance of preparing and nurturing students to progress in science-related fields. The way of learning science and the professional skills that are embedded in science programmes help develop students with life-long learning abilities and equip them with knowledge, skills and attitudes that are essential to be leaders of the rapidly changing world with ever-advancing technologies. In response to rising needs of the number of sub-degree holders’ pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Science, CUHK Faculty of Science accepted the first intake of students to the UGC-funded B.Sc. in Natural Sciences (NSCI) programme in 2014-15.

The programme, administered by the Faculty of Science with the full support of six academic units covering a wide range of science disciplines, strives to provide a rigorous training in the sciences so that graduates will have acquired broad knowledge in science and in-depth knowledge across several science subjects in a concentration area, mastered a basket of professional and generic skills for career development, and developed attitudes and values with a view to contributing to the advancement and betterment of the society.
