SAYT1001 Bondings in Organic Compounds, and Reactivity and Selectivity of Organic Reactions
有機化合物的鍵合,與有機反應的活性及選擇性
Content: This course is designed to allow students to have a basic understanding about the bonding and structures of organic molecules and ions, and their influences on the molecular properties of organic compounds, and the reactivity and selectivity of some organic reactions. This course will focus on the stability of reaction intermediates, and the reactivity and selectivity of addition reactions, nucleophilic substitutions, and eliminations.

本課程設計旨在讓同學對有機分子及離子的鍵合及結構,及它們在有機分子的特性和有 機反應的活性及選擇性的影響上有基礎的理解。本課程將會集中討論各類反應中間體的 穩定性,及加成反應、親核取代反應和消除反應的活性及選擇性。

CUSA2013 Great Discoveries in Biomedical Sciences (Senior Class)
生物醫學大發現(高級班)
Content: This course aims at deciphering how the work of some famous scientists in the field of life sciences has affected our daily life and our society. The course first provides students with the general knowledge of some basic processes in life, namely biochemistry, cell biology, and immunology, followed by how the knowledge has helped us to cope with the natural adversities such as diseases. The improvements of our quality of life by the technological advances in life sciences will also be discussed. Finally, how the development in life sciences has brought revolutionizing impacts on our lives, civilization, and modernization will be presented. Through a series of learning activities, students are encouraged to comprehend and to connect the discoveries in life sciences to daily scenarios. This course is particularly suitable for students who want to understand more on how discoveries in life sciences, which have transformed the way we think and live throughout the centuries.

本科旨於探討一些卓越生命科學學家的研究成果及其科學意念如何影響現代人類的生活 及社會發展。課程內容首先介紹一些生命運作的基本概念,即生物化學,細胞生物學及 免疫學,然後再談及生命科學如何幫助人類抵禦疾病等自然災害。最後,課堂將進一步 演繹那些生命科學的理論如何被應用,從而對現今社會作出貢獻。同學可以透過不同的 課堂學習活動,增進了解這些當代重要的科學發明如何對人類生活及其對科研工作帶來 革命性的影響及反思。本課程是為對生命科學感興趣的同學而設;課程內容讓同學們進 一步了解生命科學的發現如何對我們日常生活帶來深遠的影響。

CUSA1115 Light in Science: From Past to Present
光在過去與現在的科學事跡
Content: This course aims to introduce students to the story of light in human history, both past and present. First, we will start from a historical perspective to understand how humans have explored the properties and nature of light. Then, we will learn about some of the fascinating phenomena of light that opened the doors to relativity and quantum theory. Finally, we will introduce modern technologies related to light, especially lasers and their related applications.

本課程旨在讓同學認識光在人類歷史過去和現在的故事。首先,我們由歷史的角度出發,認識人類如何探索光的特性與本質,然後,我們將認識光的一些奇妙現象如何使人類打開相對論與量子理論的大門。最後,我們將介紹與光有關的現代科技,尤其是激光以及與其相關的應用。

Content: The ‘Biological Science Knowledge Enhancement Course’ is designed specifically for Form 4 to Form 6 students, who are interested in Biological Science. The course is composed of two modules. In Module I of this course, the objectives are to provide the students with basic principles and concepts related to biological science. In Module II, the objectives are to provide the students with more specific knowledge related to the applications of biological science.

「生命科學學生知識增進課程」是專為中四至中六對生命科學感興趣的學生而設的知識增潤課程。此課程分為兩個單元。課程第一單元的目標為介紹生命科學中的基本理論和概念。在第二單元,本課程將進一步向學生介紹一些生命科學中較為深入的知識及應用。

SAYT1005 Introduction to University Physics
大學物理入門
Content: Systematically introduce the basic concepts for university physics in mechanics, including the concept of vectors, motions in 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions, and the relation between force and motion described by Newton’s three fundamental laws. It will lay a solid foundation for the students to start the physics courses at the university level.

本課程將系統講授大學物理的力學,包括矢量、運動學、以及運動與受力的關係。牛頓三大定律在平動與轉動中的應用、動量與能量守恆等關鍵物理知識將是本課程強調的重點。本課程將為學生的大學物理學習打下堅實的基礎。

CUSA1105 Sidewalk Physicists’ Lab
「明辨是非」物理實驗室
Content: The course aims to introduce essential concepts in physics through vivid demonstrations and hands-on STEM activities. Using the style of a famous popular science TV programme, the instructor will present students with stunning science magic and tricks, leading them to enjoy an exciting journey of discovering the principles of physics in mechanics, waves, sound, optics, radiations, solar energy, electromagnetism, gases, aerodynamics, and low-temperature material properties. Hands-on activities will be arranged for students to construct their own STEM toys (e.g., telescope and model aeroplanes), and to test their performance. The course is suitable for students enthusiastic about learning science, technology and natural phenomena through STEM but without a physics background.

本課程旨在透過生動的演示和實踐 STEM 活動來介紹物理學的基本概念。導師以著名科普電視節目的風格,為學生呈現令人驚嘆的科學魔術和技巧,帶領學生享受一段激動人心的旅程,以探索力學、波動、聲音、光學、輻射、電磁學、氣體、空氣動力學和低溫物料等物理原理。我們將安排學生動手製作自己的 STEM 玩具(例如望遠鏡和模型飛機),並測試這些玩具的表現。本課程適合熱衷於透過STEM學習科學、技術和自然現象、但沒有物理背景的學生。
