SAYT2000 Scientific Insights Forum

The main theme of the programme will be Scientific Research. The training will include the fundamental principles of scientific research, which will be introduced through a series of lectures. Participants will then join one of the seven scientific projects and gain hands-on experience in performing scientific research. At the end of the programme participants will complete their training by reporting their findings both orally and in form of a poster in a mini-symposium.

Learning outcomes:   Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. plan and conduct scientific investigations individually and collaboratively with appropriate instruments and methods;
  2. make careful observations, ask relevant questions, identify problems, formulate hypotheses for investigations and recognise the importance of evidence in supporting, modifying or refuting proposed scientific hypotheses;
  3. develop the ability to think scientifically and acquire an analytical mind to critically evaluate science-related data; and
  4. acquire and apply practical skills and methodologies necessary for conducting scientific research which are required for university studies in different disciplines.

Application method:   Submit application to Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education
Others:   Participant satisfying attendance requirement and awarded grade B or above will be eligible to apply for exemption of 2 elective course units upon admitted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
