Introduction:


This course is designed for students to learn about some fundamental chemical principles. Students will learn the basic principles of chemistry including atoms and molecules, structure and chemical bondings, molecular geometry and properties. This course is conducted in the format of lecture.

本課程的設計旨在讓同學學到一些基礎化學原理。同學會在課程中學到基礎化學原理如原子與分子、結構與化學鍵合、分子幾何及特性。課程以講課形式進行。

Learning outcomes:   Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Understand some fundamental and important chemical principles such as atoms and molecules, structures and chemical bondings, and the relationship between molecular geometry and molecular properties, spectroscopy, fluorescence and phosphorescence.
  2. Recognize the roles of chemistry in some daily life situations.
  3. Understanding the principle involved in some modern chemical analytical methods.
  4. Acquiring hands-on experience in traditional and modern chemical analysis.

Medium of Instruction:   Cantonese supplemented with English
Assessment:
  1. Short answer test or exam
  2. Lab reports
