- B.Sc. in Earth and Environmental Sciences
B.Sc. in Earth and Environmental Sciences
B.Sc. in Earth and Environmental Sciences
Global climate change, natural hazards, environmental pollution, ecosystem degradation, and the current energy and food crisis are all critical issues of public concern. Earth and Environmental Sciences (EESC) will equip students with the latest knowledge and technical skills to observe, understand, analyse, and model the systems and processes that drive natural and anthropogenic global environmental changes.
Highlights
This programme places particular emphasis on employing multidisciplinary and integrated theoretical observational approaches to comprehend the aforementioned issues and devise potential solutions. Students will develop a robust foundational understanding of Earth’s dynamics and its environment, with the options to specialize in streams like Atmospheric Science, Geology and Geophysics, and Environmental Science and Technology (Accredited by HKIQEP). Students will be given opportunities to acquire valuable quantitative and analytical skills, enhancing their capabilities through hands-on laboratory work, field studies, numerical modelling, programming experience, as well as engaging in seminars, workshops, and research projects. Additionally, students can further enrich their learning experience through exchange programs at overseas universities, internships at the Hong Kong Observatory and other government bodies, geotechnical firms, and environmental organisations.
Career Prospects
Upon completing their studies, graduates are equipped for positions in governmental entities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and various industries, encompassing fields such as geotechnical surveying and engineering, meteorological and marine services, as well as climate and energy sectors. Particularly in environmental consulting, graduates with the HKIQEP qualification enjoy recognition by governmental bodies and businesses involved in environmental studies. Additionally, students have the opportunity to pursue advanced studies or establish careers within the educational domain.
